monkey ninja of doom by Loam monkey ninja of doom by Loam
As you know, the chess club Mark founded is called the Monkey Club.
Yeah, well he was asking me to draw a monkey ninja and a monkey pirate for the club, and here we go.

This was absolutely great for color practise <3 And I love the pose (I mean, come on, compared to the usual poses this is a masterpiece :D).
However, I'm not really satisfied with the face - especially the eyes.
Also, I can't draw bananas. Yeah, you can laugh. It's alright ;)

Monkey and penguin... my two favorite animals, and yet they are often found among both pirates and ninjas.

Probably the reason why I feel Monguins (monkey-penguin hybrids) make good Assassins despite also being adorable.

Dude! I'm making a ninja monkey as a character in myt game, so far I've been thinking of making him use a large shuuriken as a weapon, but I totally fell in love with that banana nunchuk idea! I wanna ask if u give a permission to borrow ur idea, I'll credit you in my gallery and in the game, If you let me use that idea. Say, would you mind?

btw, where's the pirate? I'd love to see that one hahaha - ninja-monkey does in some weird way make sense, but pirate-monkey? can't say I've ever heard of that.
but that's exactly what would make it interesting to see XD

Didn't make one. Seeing as I'm probably going to make a new ninja anyway, I might do it one of these days.

Truth be told, I'd prefer drawing a PiRAT.
But yeah, it's the MONKEY club...

well the face shape does look rather human..
but that's really the only flaw I can spy in this ^^

GREAT colours - and the bananas look fine to me. (although I did laugh - reading your comment :giggle:)

and yeah, the pose does rock *gg*

Unfortunately, with every day that's passing by, I detect more and more flaws in this (but that's the case for pretty much everything...)
There are some major oddities going on with the face - apart from the extra-anthropomorphisms you spotted, the eyes are just ridiculously far apart from each other, the inital direction of the head is wrong and the nose basically has a life of its own.
Uh, yes, and of course there's a foot I didn't draw because I'm lazy (as Vtheman pointed out).
But what actually vexes me is that the body forces are poorly executed. This is a pose that screams for movement, dynamics, action, life. It should jump right at you if you look at it. And it doesn't. It's too static. And I failed to see that when I drew it (although the good news here is that I apparently got a better eye for dynamics & force since I drew this...)

I still like it, though. It was a blast to draw.

and because I actually copy & paste everything I "write" from various internet sites. All my comments are basically collages. Impressive, huh?

The face works for me, and the same for the bananas. Nice work putting in the brown spots by the way it's so much worse being struck by fruit that has started to go past it's prime haha.

Also, you get to use "SPLOTCH" as a soundword, which quite frankly sounds awesome :D

As far as the face goes, I think it looks kinda distorted. Especially because the space between the eyes is too big (and because of that I had trouble adding the iris - most of the time it looked totally retarded... seriously, that took me a good amount of time) - however I didn't want to change the lineart because I was rather glad I got that far at all :D

Splotch haha.

The face really does lookgood I wouldn't change it. There is one thing that I keep coming back to every time I look at it that I'm hesitant to mention though.

Beware - stupid question - I gotta ask though because I'm not a native speaker ;)

What do you mean by hesitant? Can't you put your finger on it or are you afraid you might crush my spirit if you did mention it? (and if it's the latter, go on and tell me, my ego can handle it - and I'm curious, too :D)

Haha there are no stupid questins! Not anymore anyway I already asked them all.

In this case I mean tthat I was hesitant because I thought it might crush your spirit or tick you off. Plus it's a really good piece and I didn't want to bring you down after finishing it. Anyway! I really wish we could see some of the monkey's left foot. I realize it's going back and if I were drawing it I'd probably say it was behind stuff too because that's easier to draw.

nah, it's no problem ;) It's always good to get critique; it helps improve because you see how others perceive your work and what looks odd to them - although you didn't realize it yourself.

It was a laziness thing, actually. There was a left foot on the scribble, but I decided not to include it in the lineart because I had serious problems drawing it at this angle (I'm not good at feet in general, but monkey feet are just insane...). So I dropped it, hoping people wouldn't notice :D
Well, next time I'll have to fight my laziness :D

Chuckles sorry. I'm lazy too so I do that with stuff when I can, that's probably the only reason I noticed it.
